Fishers gets new boat to patrol Geist Reservoir

FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) - Geist Reservoir will be adding a new edition to the water on Memorial Day weekend.

A new Fishers public safety boat will be staffed by Fishers law enforcement and fire rescue personnel for patrols of the reservoir, north of the Fishers-Indianapolis border.

"Geist Reservoir is one of our most valuable natural and recreational resources," said Fishers Town Council member Pete Peterson. "With the increased use of Geist we need to manage the risk so it can be enjoyed safely by everyone."

The 27-foot Boston Whaler is equipped for marine firefighting, water rescue and maritime enforcement. It will be used to patrol the reservoir during special events and randomly throughout the summer.

The previous boat was retired in 2011. Fall Creek Township was able to purchase the new boat, which will be docked at the Geist Marina, with funds from the Fire Equipment Tax.

In October, fishermen rescued a man when two personal watercraft collided on Geist Reservoir.
