New business brings good news for Fishers

FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) - Fishers leaders say they have more evidence to support their approach to economic development.  It comes from a Tuesday morning announcement about a new business in town.

First Internet Bank of Indiana will move into a building that was once occupied by St. Vincent Health Medical Center. In Fishers, that's exciting for two reasons: people and taxes.

“What’s great for us,” said Town Manager Scott Fadness, is “the vast majority of that property was tax-exempt.”  Now, with the bank company in the building, “it’s going to become a taxable property.”  Forty eight jobs come as part of the move to Fishers.

The town says those jobs will mean $3.3 million in new payroll. 

The building at 11201 USA Parkway has room for expansion. So, Fadness said, “we hope to see even more growth in the future”  from the bank -- or other businesses that choose to locate in Fishers. 

The town’s Director of Community Development, Tom Dickey, told 24-Hour News 8 part of the Fishers strategy is to recognize how people move in the 21st Century.  They find a place where they want to live, first.  Then, they find a place to work. Dickey said Fishers has “a very definite strategy of trying to attract those workers.”

In a press release, the bank’s chairman and CEO, David B. Becker, appeared to suggest that’s working.  Becker said "much like First Internet Bank itself, the Fishers community is growing and thriving. With its many amenities, strong school system, and community events, Fishers has positioned itself to be a place where people want to live and work."
