Fishers will be city that elects mayor

FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) - It appears voters in Fishers want the town to become a city. With 84 percent of precincts reporting, 55 percent of voters said yes to the city referendum question.

The vote comes after a bitter campaign battle. Voters had the choice of merging with Fall Creek Township and allowing the Town Council to choose a mayor. That form of a hybrid government apparently did not appeal to voters.

Organizers with "City Yes" say it is now up to the Town Council to create a timeline for the town to officially become a city with an elected mayor.
