FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) - A gas line was cut in front of Fishers Town Hall on Thursday afternoon, prompting evacuations.

Traffic was being diverted from the area near 116th Street and Municipal Drive, Fishers Fire Department said. The Town Hall, Fishers Police Department and the Fishers BMV branch were evacuated, Fishers Fire Department said.

As of about 2:10 p.m. Thursday, utility workers were on site and had one side of the gas line shut off, Fishers Fire Department said. Crews were working to determine if they would have to dig to to shut the other side off.

As of about 2:45 p.m., the emergency situation had been mitigated and the scene was being cleared.

Ron Lipps, deputy fire marshal of Fishers Fire Department, said crews working on improvements around Town Hall accidently hit the gas line. With a fire station and the police station nearby, emergency response was very quick.

Lipps said now that the scene had been cleared, normal traffic should resume shortly.
