INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - On Tuesday morning, the game’s top 70 golfers, including Tiger Woods, will take to the course for practice rounds at Crooked Stick Golf Course in Carmel.
The tournament is part of the PGA Tour’s BMW Championship.
Practice rounds are scheduled for 8 a.m. Tuesday; Wednesday’s main event is the Pro-Am, where amateurs play alongside professional golfers; the tournament begins Thursday.
“We'll have all the best names in golf: Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy and our defending champion, Justin Rose, amongst others,” Vince Pellegrino with the Western Golf Association said.
The BMW Championship will likely have a major economic impact on the area, with $30 million in revenue expected.
The PGA estimates attendance in the area of 150,000 fans.
The PGA Tour hasn’t competed at Crooked Stick since 1991.
Organizers say Indianapolis hosting the Super Bowl increased the city's national stature, and it's possible the tournament could come back in the future.
