WESTFIELD, Ind. (WISH) - A malfunctioning fire place caused $30,000 in damages to a Westfield woman’s home Saturday morning.
Westfield firefighters responded to a home on West Worman Street shortly after 10 a.m. where a woman had relit a fire in her fireplace.
Authorities say shortly after the woman lit the fire she noticed smoke coming out of the fireplace. Fire crews were able to get the fire on the first floor and attic under control in 30 minutes.
Investigators determined there was a malfunction in the fireplace, which caused the incident.
Damages are estimated at $30,000.
There were no injuries reported.
