CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) - The groundbreaking for the Indianapolis Temple has begun in Carmel, Ind. near 116th Street and Spring Mill Road.
The groundbreaking service began at 9 a.m. Saturday under the direction of senior Church leader Elder Donald L. Hallstrom. Numerous other church leaders were in attendance.
The event was closed to the public, however it was broadcast via live stream across Indiana and parts of Illinois.
"This is a very exciting time for the members of the Church in Indiana. The groundbreaking draws us one step closer to the rich blessings that the temple will bring." commented William G. Cowley, President of the Indianapolis West Stake. "I have long awaited the building of a temple in Indiana since joining the church in Kokomo in 1958", said long-time church member Paul Sutterfield of Indianapolis. Sutterfield, now 89 said, "It will be a glorious day if I can live to see the completion of the holy temple."
There are currently 138 Mormon temples around the world.
