Plans emerge for Carmel granary area

CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) - Imaginations are at work in Carmel again. City planners have their eyes on industrial land north of the Palladium.

It's the area where demolition workers are tearing down Carmel's old grain elevator. Once it's gone, the area could be transformed into an area of new development called "Midtown".

Designers say this would create "a continuous downtown core" - linking the different districts of the city.

"I think this is an integral part, at least as far as the vision is concerned, with regard to connecting the arts and design area with the Palladium,” said Eric Seidensticker, Carmel City Council. “The plans actually show it being very much connected by walking paths."

The designers say the plan for this land can't happen all at once.

"Some land acquisitions will be easier than others," it says. So, the plan may take years to accomplish.

We were given the first public look at the design sketches. To see the full proposal, click here .
