FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) - If you are waiting for a snow plow to clear the ice, snow or slush from your neighborhood streets, you may be out of luck.

The city of Indianapolis only clears residential streets when snow fall totals hit 6 inches or more. Tuesday night’s storm did not reach that level.

The town of Fishers has a different policy. Once main roads are cleared, crews begin working on secondary streets.

In Fishers’s Sunblest neighborhood, plows worked on the winter cursed streets Wednesday morning.

They scraped away the snow and ice, making driving conditions much easier for postal worker Mike Wright.

“(It’s) slushy and wet. Be careful,” said Wright.

As the plows cleared the streets, resident Jon Fisher went to work on his own driveway.  The job was harder than expected.

“It's really heavy, really wet. Just a pain. It's good packing snow but it's really dense,” said Fisher.

One neighborhood to the south, Glenn Fieldhouse chose machine over manpower to clear a driveway.

“It's working alright. (It gets) plugged up now and then because of the wet snow,” said Fieldhouse.

What isn't working is getting the streets cleared. Ice-packed and snow-covered, drivers had to be cautious. Fieldhouse says there's a reason his street hasn't been plowed. He doesn't live within town limits.

“The county usually gets here but it might be a day later. It's no big deal. We can always make it in and out,” said Fieldhouse.

The county usually gets to the neighborhood. But this time, the race is on. A warm embrace from Mother Nature may take care of the roads before crews ever arrive.
