HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - Police have identified a Hamilton County teenager who died after what appears to be an accidental shooting at his home.
The shooting happened in the 8300 block of East 216th Street at around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Police say 16-year-old Carson Wallace was home from school because of the weather, and neighbors say he had been outside riding an ATV having fun in the snow just before the shooting.
A neighbor that lives right across the street from the Wallace’s home told 24-Hour News 8 he had spoken with the teen’s father after the shooting about how it happened.
“What I heard from the dad was the gun fell over and shot one of the boys,” said Jerry Wiles.
“When officers arrived at the scene they found a 16-year-old subject in front of the garage here at the home who had been shot in the stomach,” said Hamilton County Sheriff’s Major Mark Bowen.
Major Bowen told 24-Hour News 8 that normally in a situation like this one, the boy would have been airlifted to the hospital. But he said weather conditions made that impossible, so Wallace had to be driven by ambulance down to Methodist.
He later died from his injuries.
Noblesville Schools say a crisis response team and other trained professionals will be available to talk with students and staff members. The schools say they plan to offer the service to students even if school is closed on Wednesday because of bad weather.
In the event that school is closed, students seeking assistance should call the school office at 773-4680 for further information, a release from Noblesville schools said.
