FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) - Fishers Junior High School is missing a snake. School officials are on the lookout for a 3 to 4 foot python named Rocky. He went missing from a science class.
Rick Hutson is a wildlife rehabilitator. He says most family pet pythons are Ball Pythons. They're non venomous snakes and are about 3 feet long and Rick Hutson recommends always keeping a python in a locked cage. “These guys do nothing but want to escape that's their main purpose in life when they're in captivity,” says Rick Hutson with Critters Chance.
School officials say Rocky does not have fangs and at one point was a family pet. Officials believe the snake has not escaped the science classroom where his cage was kept. Rick Huston says, for the most part they’re harmless. “They are a little bit fatter around but they're really docile they're tamer and like I said they're a friendly snake,” says Hutson.
According to Mariana Richards, spokeswoman for Hamilton Southeastern Schools, the district hired an animal control company to find the snake. The science teacher believes the snake is in the science classroom.
The classroom is empty until the matter is resolved.
