INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - One person was shot near Broad Ripple and College avenues just before 3 a.m. Thursday.

Police say the shooting happened near College and Broad Ripple avenues, and the victim stumbled to the area in front of the Vogue for help. The 38-year-old was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital Thursday, where he was last listed in stable condition.

Officers later found the suspect. IMPD officials said the man fought officers and had to be subdued with a stungun. The suspect, 19-year-old Jamal Headen, was arrested on preliminary charges of aggravated battery, possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, battery and resisting arrest.

IMPD has been called to within a 1/2 mile area of Broad Ripple and College avenues more than 550 times in the last six months, according to online crime data.

Most calls involved offenses like fighting, public intoxication and narcotics investigations. But there were also incidents reported involving more serious crimes including armed robberies , officers being assaulted, larceny/burglary, DWI and hit-and-run accidents.
