INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A dozen people were forced to evacuate their apartment Friday afternoon after a fire broke out in the laundry room of one resident’s home.
The Indianapolis Fire Department arrived to the 2500 block of Fox Harbour Court at the Fox Club Apartments.
A resident told firefighters she began to smell smoke when she was doing laundry. Her smoke detectors then activated.
When she ran to the source of the smoke, she opened her dryer door and found it full of flames.
She evacuated, called 911 and alerted other residents.
Maintenance was able to cut electricity to the building. All residents had exited the building before fire crews arrived.
The fire was under control in 20 minutes and no injuries were reported.
The fire has been ruled accidental. Damage is estimated at $70,000.
