INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Family members survived but 12 puppies died in a house fire on the northwest side of Indianapolis Thursday afternoon.
A grandmother said lights had been flickering in one of the rooms of the home before the fire. She was with her two grandchildren, ages 1 and 3, in the living room when they smelled something in a back bedroom, according to Indianapolis Fire Department. The grandmother found smoke and a glow in the bedroom before getting the children and a dog out of the home.
IFD responded just before 1 p.m. to the home in the 3100 block of Eagledale Drive.
The family and firefighters weren’t able to get 12 puppies out of the home before they were killed by the fire.
Damage to the home is estimated at $60,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
