INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A firefighter was sent to the hospital after battling a fire in Beech Grove Monday afternoon.

A 59-year-old grandfather was resting in his dining room when he noticed a sofa on fire. The man round up his five grandchildren and quickly fled the residence.

Firefighters arrived on scene to the 300 block of North 13th Street just after 1 p.m. to find the house engulfed in heavy fire and smoke.

One dog was killed in the fire and another escaped safely. A Beech Grove firefighter was slightly burned and sent to St. Francis Hospital.

Officials are still investigating this fire.
