500 Festival head leaving

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The leader of the 500 Festival, which brings hundreds of thousands of people to downtown Indianapolis each summer, is leaving the organization after 10 years.
Kirk Hendrix is leaving his post as president and CEO of the 500 Festival in February to become president and CEO of AAA Hoosier Motor Club.
“The 500 Festival has long held a special place in the community, and to have had the chance to work alongside such a dedicated force of staff and volunteers has been a privilege,” Hendrix said in a statement.
The 500 Festival, a non-profit volunteer organization created in 1957, heads up various events in conjunction with the Indianapolis 500, including the Mini Marathon and the 500 Festival Parade. In 2012, 500 Festival events drew more than 500,000 visitors to Indianapolis in the month of May.
