INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - An accident at the intersection of E. 38th St. and N. Post Rd. Sunday afternoon involving three vehicles was the result of a car completely disregarding a stop light, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers say.
Officers were dispatched to the scene at 1:30 p.m. A blue Nissan Sentra that was occupied by two females drove through a stop light and struck a van with two adults and two children, ages 13 and 5, inside. They had just left church, IMPD said.
The two females inside the Sentra were taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital in serious condition.
A red Honda Civic was also struck. The adult male inside was transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital in good condition.
The three vehicles involved in the crash left seven people seriously injured. A 5-year-old who was in the van was transported to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health in critical condition.
It took 20 minutes for two people in that van to be extricated by officers, the Indianapolis Fire Department says. The two adults and 13-year-old inside were transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital in serious condition.
While witnesses told IFD that the Sentra ran the red light, the cause of the crash in still under investigation, IMPD says.
