INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The day after 9/11, Hoosiers are still being drawn to the Indianapolis 9/11 Memorial on the canal in downtown.

People from all over the area are taking time to come downtown to see it for themselves. The monument includes two beams from the World Trade Center, one topped by a Bald Eagle carved by an Indianapolis firefighter.

Those who come to see it spend time looking at it, shooting video of it, taking a picture and many touch it.

David Briggs of Indianapolis said seeing it was awesome.

"Overwhelming and magnificent all at the same time," he said.

Scott Roberts of Greenwood said he wanted to see it in person.

"It didn't seem real until we actually were down here and had that sense of closure about what happened," he said.

Jean Snyder of Cloverdale is amazed at the size and scope of the memorial.

"I think how the community came together so quickly with so much money and was able to put this together," she said.

The memorial was spearheaded by an IFD member who was an early responder at ground zero. It cost $350,000.
