INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - We've all heard so much praise for the new Indianapolis airport
that any criticism stands out. That was the case when a member of
the City-County Council complained about what the airport expansion
left behind, the old airport.
Bob Lutz represents Wayne Township on the City-County Council
and he doesn't like seeing the old airport sit abandoned.
"Right now, they look OK other than just abandoned. But where are they going to be in six months if we don’t get going on this thing? And crime comes next. We haven't had a lot of that problem here yet. But, I don't want it to get to that point," said Lutz.
Airport CEO John Clark said, to some degree, Lutz is right.
Clark said even though the new terminal has been open for nearly a year, the old one across the way is not entirely shut down, yet.
Clark said the airport is looking for a company -- or team of companies -- that can evaluate the abandoned property.
"We're trying to figure out how we better manage our resources and get a better return on it," he said.
That's a prayer answered for Lutz.
"Hallelujah. I'm not a particularly religious guy. But
hallelujah," he said.
