INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A man cleaning tanks at a west side business was trapped inside one of those tanks and had to be rescued Monday afternoon.
Wayne Township firefighters were called to Parts Cleaning Technology on Distributors Drive at around 1:30 p.m.
The worker was overcome by chemical fumes and collapsed inside the tank. Other workers were able to dismantle the tank and pull him out just as firefighters arrived.
Those firefighters had just wrapped up a training session on this type of rescue a short time earlier.
“The first two crews in this neighborhood are hazmat teams and from eight this morning until noon they were doing level A entry on this very type of situation, so you're talking a half hour turnaround from training for the worst case scenario to dealing with the worst case scenario,” said Justin Sparks of the Wayne Township Fire Department.
The worker was taken to Methodist Hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
