INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Thousands of visitors are expected to travel to Bloomington and Indianapolis when the 14th Dalai Lama comes to visit in May.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama will be making his sixth trip to Indiana.
For the Tibetan monk, Bloomington has become a sort of second home because his late brother's connections to Indiana University. The last time he visited Bloomington, his hostess, Elaine Mellencamp, invited over 300 guests for a reception at Indiana University.
"I think this is a really good start for the center. They will commence to build a monastic university, which is a really unique thing for our town, so I think it's really exciting," she said.
The Dalai Lama plans on speaking at the Indiana University Auditorium on the 12th and 13th. On the 14th, he'll give a public talk in Indianapolis. Details of his Indianapolis visit will be released next month.
The topic of the May teachings is, "The Heart of Sutra." It will express the heart of the Buddhist religion as it expresses the importance of compassion and wisdom.
