INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A local high school coach is spending the night in the Marion County Jail. Police say she took a relationship with a student too far and now faces a felony charge.
28 year old, Sara Strahm, has been coaching high school students for years. 24-Hour News 8 has learned that Strahm served as basketball coach at Decatur Central High School and assistant coach at Danville and Ben Davis High Schools. She is currently the head coach of the Pike High School Girls' Basketball team. Now, Strahm is looking at a felony child seduction charge.
According to IMPD's Sgt. Paul Thompson the relationship started months ago. "Apparently at the beginning of the school year of 2009 a relationship which they did not specify who initiated the relationship but it really doesn't matter a relationship was initiated involving the 17 year old student and the 28 year old coach." said Sgt. Thompson.
Police say, the 17 year old female student, a player on Strahm's team, told someone about the relationship, that person told school administrators and they in turn called IMPD. "It is a felony to be involved with a 17 year old whether it's a boy or a girl when you have a school environment." said Sgt. Thompson.
Police say Strahm spoke to investigators Friday afternoon and admitted to having the relationship with the teen.
Billy Weathers has a daughter who attends Pike High School and plays basketball for the school. "It's a hurt feeling you know knowing that the coach would do something like that take advantage of a child." said Weathers.
Police say this is an open and active investigation and urge any
other possible victims come forward by either telling school
administrators or calling police.
