INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Monday morning’s commute on the city's northeast side will get a little easier. INDOT officials have reopened the far right lane of I-465 eastbound from US 31 to 56th Street/Shadeland Avenue four days after Thursday’s tanker explosion.
"The primary closures that we have are all ramps getting on to 465 east bound from 31 around to 56th Street/Shadeland Avenue," said Will Wingfield with INDOT.
But late Sunday night those ramps reopened with restrictions.
"We've authorized overtime for our contractors to get out there and repair the missing structures that were knocked out as a result of Thursday's accident," said Wingfield.
The Indiana Department of Transportation bridge inspectors said after getting back lab test a part of the interstate is safe to reopen.
Forty-five concrete columns are underneath the I-465 bridge. INDOT said the columns support the bridge deck and the traffic moving on top of it.
Early Sunday morning, contractors poured concrete to replace one of the columns that was damaged.
"We're going to be testing the concrete as time goes on hopefully to the point where it's harden and derived enough strength that we can begin moving to the next step of getting this reopen," said Wingfield
INDOT said after the concrete is cured contractors will be on step closer to opening the I-69 ramp to I-465 south.
This ramp remains closed while crews continue the repairs.
Here's a look at the ramps that will be open and closed Monday morning.
To help with the interstate opening, Indiana State Police will have extra patrols out on the highway.
INDOT said signal technicians will continue to monitor traffic flow on the city streets to help with some of the congestion.
