BEECH GROVE, Ind. (WISH) - A state representative wants to help Beech Grove keep its 911 dispatch services headquartered in the city.

The city is considering having Speedway take over that service.

Part of the reason is the legislature enacted a law last year which says counties may not have more than two dispatch services.

There are four in Marion County.

Representative John Barnes plans to introduce legislation next year which would exempt Marion County from the law restricting dispatch centers.

"We know that the budget's tight, we know that we need to cut, but I think there's a difference between government consolidation and consolidating when you're talking about public safety,” said Rep. Barnes.

The city of Beech Grove will address the dispatch situation at a meeting Wednesday night.
