INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Metro police have released the name of a woman killed in an
accident involving one of their own.
Amber Raines, 20, was hit by a squad car while crossing the
street.
It happened at around 9 p.m. Wednesday on Keystone Avenue
just south of Raymond Street.
According to police, IMPD officer Erin Ringham was responding
to a call about a possible home invasion when she struck Raines.
Raines was rushed to Methodist Hospital, but died less than an hour
later from her injuries.
"This was not a red light and sirens call. I believe she was
a back up officer, not the primary officer. It is a 40 mph zone,
the area between Raymond and Kelley is not very well lit and that's
where the pedestrians were crossing," said Sgt. Paul Thompson,
Indianapolis Metro Police Department.
Officer Ringham is a one year veteran of IMPD. She has been
placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the
investigation.
