BEECH GROVE, Ind. (WISH) - The city of Beech Grove is facing what could be an expensive mold problem. City hall is all but evacuated because so much moisture has leaked into the building.
A leaky roof and gutters combined with an HVAC system on the fritz have led to water being where it shouldn’t -- and that has led to mold.
Stains cover ceiling tiles, water damage has peeled the paint from the heating and cooling vents and there are puddles of water sitting on tables at the back of the room where the Beech Grove City Council once met.
The Marion County Health Department has been investigating.
The Beech Grove City Hall is now nearly completely evacuated
because of the mold. There is one office -– which houses the
chamber of commerce -– that has been deemed safe.
In an agreement with the health department, the city has 45
days to come up with a way to address the problem. But
Clerk-Treasurer Sarah Kincaid admits the means to pay for a
permanent solution remain a mystery.
Kincaid said the price tag is likely to go beyond one million
dollars.
