INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A rally in downtown Indianapolis supported a teen expelled from IPS after he took a stun gun to school .
Dynasty Young said he took the weapon to Arsenal Tech High School after he was bullied for being gay. Young’s fight against bullying has made national headlines, and now it’s making an impact here in Indianapolis.
Members with Indiana Youth Group and PFLAG are staging a peaceful protest at the Indianapolis Public Schools Administration Building. They said the rally and march is in response to the treatment of Young and other youths who they say have not been protected by administrators in Indiana schools.
This rally comes one week after IPS expelled Young for bringing a stun gun to school.
Indiana Youth Group said they don’t condone the use of self-protection devices at school, however, they are asking IPS and other districts to change their policies and protect all youths.
IPS told us they “do not condone bullying … but students cannot bring weapons on school ground for any reason.” They said their policies are clear and they don’t need revision.
Once the marchers arrive at the IPS building, they planned to hold a peaceful demonstration there, then sit in on the IPS board meeting that was set for 7 p.m..
