INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Motorists traveling on Allisonville Road face a shift in the traffic pattern Wednesday morning.

Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) contractors shifted traffic Tuesday night on Allisonville Road on the south side of the closed bridge over I-465.

Both directions of traffic on Allisonville Road between the I-465 ramps and 82 nd Street shifted to new pavement on the east side of the median in order to remove and replace existing pavement south of the bridge.

Traffic going northbound on Allisonville to enter eastbound I-465 remains on the east side of the road.

Traffic exiting eastbound I-465 to southbound Allisonville has shifted to new pavement on the exit ramp and directed to the east side of Allisonville Road, which will be restriped to allow both directions to share the pavement.

Access to businesses will be maintained with temporary driveways until permanent pavement is in place.

Walsh Construction plans to shift traffic on the north side of the bridge, between 86 th Street and the I-465 ramps, on Thursday night.

Traffic going southbound on Allisonville to enter westbound I-465 and traffic exiting westbound I-465 to northbound Allisonville will share new pavement on the west side of the road.  This schedule is subject to change.

This phase will be in place until Walsh, the state’s contractor for the $19 million bridge and interchange project, opens the new Allisonville Road bridge over I-465, which is expected in mid-September.

At that time, each direction of traffic on Allisonville Road will be directed to the normal side of the median.
