INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A puppy is fighting for its life after it was stabbed multiple times following an argument.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of West Ray Street to the report of a disturbance and possibly and animal injured.
When officers arrived to the residence, they found two men arguing outside. One man had a knife in his hand.
After both men were handcuffed, IMPD heard a woman hysterically crying. The woman approached the officer with a puppy in her arms that was covered in blood.
IMPD called for animal control. The woman said the puppy was hardly breathing.
One man, Rodriguez, said he had let John Madden and his puppy move into the residence until they found another place to live. He also said he and Madden had a fight earlier in the morning about the puppy eating his cat’s food.
Rodriguez said that Madden became very upset, grabbed a knife from the kitchen sink, took the puppy outside and began stabbing it.
The puppy was stabbed approximately five to six times, police say.
Animal control arrived to the scene. Madden was arrested for cruelty to animal and possession of marijuana that was found on him. He was transported to the Arrestee Processing Center without further incident.
IMPD went to the animal hospital and were told by doctors that the puppy was stabbed nine times and had a six inch cut to its belly.
Doctors gave the puppy a 50-percent chance to live.
