INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - An early morning fire heavily damaged a two-story home on the east side of Indianapolis.

Firefighters saw heavy smoke coming from the rear of the home at 4041 E. 42nd St. as they arrived shortly after 2 a.m.

The flames had made their way into the attic, forcing firefighters to be brought in to gain access to ceilings and walls.

Crews gained access to the rear of the home and extinguished the fire on the first floor.

A total of 16 IFD units, 1 EMS unit and a handful of IMPD units responded to the incident.

The fire in the vacant home was brought under control in 40 minutes. No one was injured.

Damage has been estimated at $125,000.

IFD and IMPD Arson investigators were called to the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
