INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Nine of 20 Football Bowl Subdivision schools that hired men's head basketball coaches received grades of A on the inaugural Black Coaches and Administrators Hiring Report Card.
The Indianapolis-based organization advocates for the growth and development of minority hiring in sports. The study was produced with the Indiana University School of Journalism and released Thursday.
The nine schools receiving A's: Central Michigan, Miami (Ohio), Mississippi State, TCU, UAB, Illinois, North Texas, South Carolina and Tulsa. Two schools received F's: LSU and Virginia Tech.
Grades were based on number of contacts between the school and BCA; number of people of color on search committees; percentage of coaches of color interviewed; and length of the search, with longer searches preferred.
The hiring process, not the outcome, was the subject of the grading.
