Big Ten weekend fun planned downtown

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Big Ten football championship is set Saturday in Indianapolis, but there are plenty of events outside of the game to keep visitors busy in downtown Indianapolis.

There are plenty of tickets left for the championship game between the Wisconsin Badgers and the Nebraska Cornhuskers at Lucas Oil Stadium. If you want more information or would like to buy tickets, check out Lucas Oil Stadium’s Ticketmaster site .

But beyond the game, there’s plenty to do too, centering on Georgia Street, former site of the Super Bowl Village that caused a national stir during Super Bowl XLVI last winter.

From 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, there’s the family-friendly Allstate Tailgate Tour at Lucas Oil Stadium, where fans can create signs, play games, take pictures and more. That event also continues from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, with the game kicking off shortly thereafter.

Tailgate festivities will extend out onto Georgia Street, too, where there will be food, drinks and memorabilia to buy, and IndyCars will be on display in the area, too.

Also running from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday is the Big Ten Fan Fest, with pep rallies, marching band performances, autograph sessions, football clinics and more at the Indianapolis Convention Center.

More than 30,000 people attended Fan Fest last year, and that crowd is expected to grow this year, with attractions extended out onto Georgia Street this year.
