INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A Bloomington pain clinic physician's medical license was revoked on Thursday.
Dr. Kamal Tiwari's license to practice medicine was revoked by the Indiana Medical Licensing Board after a licensing complaint was filed by Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller's office.
Tiwari was sentenced in Sept. to 3.5 years in federal prison for prescribing addictive pain medication to unknown substance abusers and committing health care fraud through Medicaid reimbursement for medically unnecessary procedures, according to a release.
This sentencing came after Tiwari pleaded guilty to federal charges of health care fraud and unlawful distribution of drugs.
Additionally, Tiwari was ordered Thursday to pay a minimum fine of $22,000 within 180 days.
He also faces three years on supervised release and nearly $1.3 million in restitution to Medicare, Medicaid and Anthem.
