Broad Ripple's 175th anniversary party

    INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A big birthday bash was held Sunday in the community of Broad Ripple.

    Friday marked the 175th anniversary of the founding of Broad Ripple and all week long, events occurred to celebrate.

    The Broad Ripple Association held the birthday party to end the celebration for the public, which included cake, ice cream, live music, crafts, and historical interpretations.

    Broad Ripple was founded back in 1837 by Jacob Coil, who platted a new community on the north side of the unfinished Central Canal.

    He named the new town Broad Ripple and the rest is history.
