INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Firefighters battled the elements and a fire Wednesday morning on the west side of Indianapolis, near Speedway.
Indianapolis Fire Department crews were sent to the fire on 16th Street two blocks west of Tibbs Street around 5:30 a.m. when someone called saying they saw smoke.
One of the fire hydrants froze, but firefighters were able to find another hydrant that worked and also had water in their trucks. That water, though, was spreading onto the street and creating a sheet of ice.
"The biggest danger out here right now is all the water on the street, it's frozen and it is really slick," said Lt. Bonnie Hensley from the Indianapolis Fire Department.
One firefighter suffered minor injuries after falling on the ice. The firefighter was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital for treatment.
Salt trucks came out to help make the road less slick.
The business, Grant's Catering, has been in the spot for about 10 years.
The cause of the fire wasn't immediately known, but the business suffered about $90,000 in damages.
