INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Anthony Ryan awoke around 5 a.m. to the smell of smoke in his home in the 1000 block of West McCarty Street. When he went to figure out what was going on, he found flames engulfing the front of his house.
Indianapolis Fire Departments crews were sent to Ryan’s home at 5:15 a.m., but the fire was so bad that firefighters had to battle the blaze from the outside of the home.
The resident of the home wasn’t seriously hurt but paramedics at the scene checked him out. A cat named Growler died in the fire.
It took firefighters 45 minutes to get the fire under control. In all, the fire caused significant damage, valued at about $150,000. The house didn’t have working smoke detectors.
Ryan was expected to stay with family members.
