INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - After a long weekend of moving in, Butler University students are spending the day before classes start serving the Indianapolis community.

More than 500 students, mostly freshman, are spending Tuesday afternoon doing service work at 23 locations around Indianapolis. It is all part of the Bulldogs into the Streets program, also known as BITS.

The event allows students to get to know the Indianapolis community through volunteer work.

BITS has been a welcome week tradition since it first started in 1995.

Currently, 100 percent of Butler students participate in community service as part of Butler's Indianapolis Community Requirement.
