LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) - It was a year and a half ago that fire burned part of Camp Belzer to the ground.
Thursday afternoon, its new activity center will be dedicated.
Camp Belzer is the destination for about 100,000 folks every year, from boy scouts to volunteers with the organization.
The activity center burned the day before Thanksgiving in 2010.
Fire investigators said a chemical that was being used to refinish the original building's hardwood floors spontaneously combusted and caused the fire.
It took 18 months to rebuild.
During that time, the scouts held events at other sites and organized in tents on the grounds.
“It was a tough time for a lot of scouts,” Field Director Tim Bouchard said. “People had a lot of memories here, but the camp is still the same. The building is very similar to the one before, so memories will still happen, and it's still a great opportunity for us to move forward.”
The dedication is open to the public.
Date: Thursday, June 14
