Campaign aims to keep kids safe during holiday travel

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A different kind of blitz aims make sure families travel safely this holiday season, and it kicks off Tuesday.

This drive is focused not just on preventing drunk driving but also making sure the little ones are in their car seats and that the seats are installed safely.

Tuesday’s clinic will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Marion County Child Advocacy Center at 4134 N. Keystone Ave.

The campaign runs from now through mid-December and is funded by the Indiana Criminal Justice institute.

From Jan. 1 through Oct. 24 there have been 292 automobile collisions in Marion County that involved children ranging in age from infancy to 8 years old, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office. A total of 437 children have been injured in vehicle accidents, which includes pedestrians, bicyclists and passengers in motor vehicles. Six children have died as a result of these collisions.
