INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Fire investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire that destroyed an apartment complex that was currently under construction.
The scene was near 16th Street and Park Avenue.
The building was unoccupied and no one was severely injured and no one died.
Police say the fire started just before 9 p.m. Friday. By 11 o’clock crews were dousing out a few hot spots, but the fire was contained.
There were reports early Saturday that electrical malfunction started the fire. However, IFD says that is not true.
The department estimates it could take days to weeks before cause is determined.
Indianapolis Housing Agency is in charge of the property. The group has not ruled out the possibility of rebuilding.
Representatives for the agency are turning there attention to first responders who kept the fire spreading to other buildings in the area.
“They did a fantastic job nothing short of remarkable on what they were able to do,” said Justin Ohlemiller spokesperson for IHA.
