INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Interim Police Chief Rick Hite is another step closer to becoming a certified law enforcement officer in Indiana.
On Monday, the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board gave Hite a waiver which allows him to bypass 600 hours of training.
Hite served on the Baltimore Police Department before moving to Indianapolis to accept the position of deputy public safety director.
In April, Hite was promoted to Interim Police Chief of IMPD. Interim Chief now has a full year to complete comprehensive law enforcement exam. The comprehensive test will include topics ranging from criminal law enforcement to traffic and fire arms.
24-Hour News 8 sat down during a one-on-one interview with Chief Hite. During the 10 minute interview Hite gave insight into why it took months for him to get the waiver.
“You are talking about looking at records going back 30 years and at the same time we are going through transition here,” said Hite.
Hite says he is looking forward to passing the comprehensive law enforcement exam.
