INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Emergency crews were unable to save a 13-year-old boy who drowned in an east side park pool late Tuesday night. Police say the boy's body was in the pool for 30-45 minutes before medics could reach him.
Crews were called to Douglass Park pool located at 1616 East 25th Street (near 25th and College) around 10:30 p.m.
Police say Timothy Bray, 13, was with two other friends outside the facility before he jumped the fence surrounding the pool and got in the 10-foot-deep water.
Police believe Bray's friends waited several minutes while he was under water and then they ran home and told an adult.
“They said he jumped over the fence to go swimming. They begged him not too, but he jumped anyway. Then they jumped over to try and help him, then he went into a higher part and that's when he lost control,” said Renee Northington.
Police say the adult then drove to the pool and then called 911. By that time, Bray had been in the water for a half an hour.
Divers with the Indianapolis Fire Department were called in to reach him.
So police are really urging kids to call 911 first in any kind of emergency.
