INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Police say a woman found a baby boy wandering outside in a diaper on the west side late Wednesday night.

The 1-year-old child was found near the intersection of Rebecca Drive and Rockville Road. The woman reported the incident to police just before 10:30 p.m.

Officers arrived to meet the woman who found the child and called for medics to examine the child. While medics were checking the infant, officers summoned child protective services to the scene.

While waiting for CPS, police say the child’s grandmother called and told them that his mom was out looking for him. Officers met with the mother who told them she left the child in his father’s care while she went out.

Officers spoke with the father who said the child’s mother came home and he was preparing to leave. He told officers that he bathed the children and put them to bed; but it is possible that he left the front door ajar.

A CPS case worker took the infant and his 9-year-old brother into protective custody.
