INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Metro Police say a five-year-old boy suffered a serious head injury last Friday night while on the teacup ride at Xscape party center on the northwest side.
A police report says Xscape employees summoned Lafayette Square Mall security guard around 8:30.
The officer was told the child hit his head and fell out of the teacup ride, according to the report. The officer said the child was unconscious but breathing.
The child was taken to Riley Hospital.
According to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, who is in charge of inspecting the rides, Xscape voluntarily shut down the teacup ride immediately following the accident Friday.
Monday evening an inspector with the Indiana Homeland Security went out to Xscape to gather information about the incident and collect worker and witness interviews. The department isn’t saying right now what they learned as a result of the preliminary investigation. Tuesday morning, an inspector will return to the teacup ride to conduct a full inspection.
Homeland security says Xscape did not report the accident to the department as the business is required to do. Rides like the teacup must report accidents within four hours of the incident.
This is a developing story. 24-Hour News 8 will have the latest information at 10 and 11.
