INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Members inside St. Lukes United Methodist Church were working inside the church’s kitchen around 6 a.m. Friday morning.

The volunteers pulled out the pots and pans to cook a meal for people impacted by the south side home explosion.

David Mitchell is known as Chef Dave around St. Lukes. He and his fellow members made 350 meals. The group sent those meals 27 miles south to Southport Presbyterian Church.

Once there the group will serve the meals to those in attendance. In addition to the church pitching in to help, the Pacers and Colts joined forces to donate $20,000.

“These are hometown people. Lets try to try to help them first,” said David Mitchell.

On Friday night the Pacers will honor Kirk McDonald and his family who helped rescue a family of four during the explosion. The family will receive an award and will be recognized during the second part of the game.
