INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Code Enforcement for Indianapolis took the water ban over the summer very seriously, not hesitating to investigate any violations.

From July 13 to Sept. 5, the total complaints received at the Department of Code Enforcement from the Mayor's Action Center totaled 1,387. During that time, 1,022 investigations were conducted ensuring the ban was being followed. There were also 812 warnings and 36 citations issued.

The ban was lifted at noon on Wednesday . Officials are still asking residents to follow voluntary water restrictions.

Those voluntary restrictions are:

  • Residents and businesses should limit watering of established lawns and trees to once per week.
  • New sod and seed should only be watered on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
  • Residents are asked not to wash cars or use hoses to clean sidewalks, driveways or other surfaces.
