INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The problem of teen crime has caught the attention of City County Council, and they want to hear your ideas on how to stop it.
There is a town hall forum for elected officials, law enforcement, those in the justice system and the community to have a discussion about what's working and what's not.
A 15-year-old opened fire inside Lafayette Square mall in early January. A few weeks later, a 16-year-old fired shots at Circle Center Mall downtown.
Councilor Maggie Lewis says that a big step forward is to get everyone in the room - the community, law enforcement and the City-County Council - to talk about the problem and kick around solutions.
"We know that our entire community is not made up of bad youth,” Lewis said. “(You) know we have bad apples out there but we kneed to be able to come together, set our egos aside and talk about what we are going to do together as a community and what are those solutions.”
The Town Hall meeting is at 6 p.m. Tuesday, at Eastern Star Church, 5750 E. 30th St., Indianapolis.
