INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Two people escaped from a house fire Friday morning on the north side of Indianapolis.

Indianapolis firefighters were sent to the home near West 76th Place and Grandview Drive around 5:16 a.m. When they arrived, smoke was coming from the single-story home.

A female resident was in a car when firefighters arrived and was concerned about the whereabouts of her husband. They were both in bed when they awoke to smoke. Firefighters found the man in the garage. He was OK but medics checked him out because he was covered in soot.

The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately known.
