SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WISH) - A good-sized crowd descended upon Indianapolis Motor Speedway for Community Day.
The annual event is a chance for the little ones to get a taste of racing. They competed against one another using pedal-powered race cars. And new this year, the kids had an opportunity to sit in a race car hooked up to a computer simulator.
Parents like Meg Wrobel keep coming back year after year.
Armed with water and sunblock, the Wrobels arrived with everything they needed to get through the day.
"We don't have to leave or cut out early. We take advantage of everything because we are ready to go and enjoy the day," she said.
Even though temperatures stayed in the 70s for most of the day, parents came to the track with plenty of water and sunblock.
"Yea, I'm prepared," said Angie Lockard, who brought her young son to the track.
While kids enjoyed bouncing in the bounce houses, more seasoned race fans enjoyed walking around Pit Lane and looking at the vintage cars on display. Some even took the chance to drive around the famed oval track in their personal vehicles.
