Doctor's license suspended following sexual battery charges

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The state medical licensing board took action against a local doctor accused of sexual battery.

Dr. Segun Rasaki’s license has been suspended for 90-days and that could be extended.

The suspension came after the attorney general's office told the licensing board the doctor is an imminent danger to public health and safety.

The doctor accepted the suspension but did not admit guilt.

Dr. Rasaki was charged with sexual battery and battery after complaints from female patients saying he touched them inappropriately.

Several of those women were at today's emergency hearing.

At least two said they were required to undergo pelvic exams or pap smears every 30 days for no reason.

“We needed to take emergency action today to make sure patients and future patients would be safe,” Deputy Attorney General Jessica Krug said.

Krug says the patients alleging the complaints against Rasaki have had difficult experiences.

“It is tough to hear their stories and it is tough to know what they have gone through,” Krug said. “It is not tough to act on their behalf and bring their action into court and take the appropriate steps to ensure the safety for citizens of Indiana.”

Once a formal administrative complaint is filed, the Medical Licensing Board will determine the appropriate discipline based upon all the facts of the case presented by the Attorney General’s Office.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police investigated complaints by female patients regarding “inappropriate sexual touching” by Rasaki during appointments.

The department then forwarded the information plus additional complaints to the attorney general’s office for further review and investigation.
